Why WeWork proves Virtual Spaces are more needed than In-Person Spaces
This will be an ongoing Blog post that I will be updating, but I wanted to get my initial thoughts out about the recent WeWork bankruptcy as it pertains to virtual spaces.
The WeWork bankruptcy is further proof that virtual spaces are a better investment than in-person spaces. This is especially true for small businesses who may not have the funding to rent out a physical location with a lot of foot traffic. A Virtual space allows you not only to display whatever it may be that you are selling, it also gives you space to shoot and record YouTube content. If you already have an online store, a virtual space will serve to enhance what you are doing.
Walking around New York City in 2023, I am shocked to see how many For Lease signs I see. Unless you’re offering an experience, an event or a reward system for coming to the store why wouldn’t I just continue to shop online and get Free Shipping (Cost Adjusted Shipping) right to my door?
Yes, there are definitely pro’s to having a physical location people can come to, but there has to be more to the space to make it worth all of that rent money a business owner is paying every month. They have to throw events or make it a shopping experience that people are willing to physically come to, yet even if you have that why would you not want that online in a virtual space?
Then there is also the rise in people working from home, a new change to our lives in 2023, and a change that can be adapted to in virtual spaces. There are great meeting rooms in Spatial that businesses are using as they give a sense of presence not felt on a Zoom call, but you can also stream in your zoom calls and even video call with everyone who attends!
This is why I have been expanding my own online store into the virtual space as I think that is the future of online shopping, going into these virtual spaces and have a gamified experience where people can be rewarded in new ways.
People are more online, instead of fear mongering that statistical fact, we should embrace it. The only constant in this life is change, the WeWork bankruptcy and those of many other in-person businesses is just another example of that fact.
