I started this writing project back in 2010 and have been adding to it ever since. It is in that spirit that A Bleaceful Sleep will be an ongoing project, evolving over time. It won’t necessarily be grammatically correct, as I am peeling back the layers a bit, more R. Lannom than Bleace if you will.
Flashback. It’s Summer of 2012, I have decided not to take any classes, and instead work on my writing. For 3 days a week, I was a Valet Manager at Rocco’s Tacos on Las Olas in Fort Lauderdale, the other four days I was mostly in my one-bedroom apartment on my computer writing feverishly. At the end of that summer, right before classes began in August, I had over 1,000 written pages in total, random short stories, poems, and then my computer crashed. The hard drive stopped moving, I took it in to two different computer stores and nothing could be saved, the files were all corrupted. I was devastated. I ordered Chinese food and didn’t speak to anyone for a week. I laid in bed and sulked.
What the fuck was really worth it in the end? What would I leave behind after I die? I tried to leave something behind, and it got deleted, taken from me, forever, and not a single person on this planet ever got to read any of it but me.
All of my life, I had been up until that moment, a private writer, never really telling anyone, or showing anyone what I had written. What hurt the most after that hard drive crashed, was that I wasn’t given the opportunity to try and connect my writing to readers. Jim Carey says that our effect on others is the greatest currency there is, and he is right. What lies at the heart of that sentiment, is connection.
Ever since I was young, I had a deep connection to writing. It gave me solace. A friend. Advice to myself. An escape into my own reality.
I hope you will join me in this creative adventure. I will be continually adding to this project with both written and spoken word as well as 2D imagery and 3D animation. Let Us Go Further Together and explore what will ensue A Bleaceful Sleep.
